A Sweet Sunday

The plan for today was to make some awesome peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  Then I decided to make a quick trip across town to my favorite little Japanese shop, Tokyo Discount.  Ended up meeting family for lunch on that side of town instead.  By the time “lunch” was over, it was almost time for dinner.  So, I picked up some treats at my old standby cupcake shop, The Cupcakery , to enjoy later.  I still felt like I had treated myself to something special.  They may not last as long as a cute little tea cup or Hello Kitty ice cube tray, but they still made my day.

Mmmmm… The Orange Julius is one of my new favorites!  The frosting tastes just like an orange creamcicle and the cake itself has little bits of orange peel in it.  Not enough to be overwhelming.  I was surprised.

I hadn’t been in since I moved to the northern end of Las Vegas and only remembered them having a handful of flavors then.  Their menu has definitely expanded and thank goodness!  What they had before was spectacular and they’ve just managed to continue that tradition.  I love that each flavor I’ve tried has an amazing amount of depth, but still maintains a lightness.  The frosting to cake ratio is perfect at the Cupcakery as well.  Instead of enjoying the dab of cake you might normally get with your mound of frosting, this little bakery lets you enjoy both equally.
